We might be a bit biased, but we reckon our team is pretty awesome.
We're proud of our people and we want to show off how cool they are, so we thought we would start a series of interviews to help you get to know Cotiss and our team a little better.
Next up, Janick Van Well - Full Stack Engineer.
Why do you do what you do?
I've always loved computers. My Dad gave me one when I was about 4 years old, a windows 98 machine with about a 5GB hard drive and no internet connection! Strangely enough, I initially went to university for civil engineering and didn't enjoy it at all. I later switched to computer science and the rest as they say, is history.
Who are your heroes?
Elon Musk - He has managed to do the impossible time and time again. To paraphrase a quote I heard about him "He made an electric car, which is basically impossible, and it works, which is basically impossible. And then he build an infrastructure so you could charge it anywhere you drove, and that was basically impossible. Then he made it cheap, which is unbelievable. Then he build a rocket, which was 1/10th the price of a NASA rocket, that you could reuse, which was impossible. Then he put one of his cars on top of his rocket and shot it up into space. This all happened and he's still alive!".
What's one thing you're passionate about outside of work?
Snowsports! I absolutely love skiing. I can't quite describe the feeling you get when you're at the top of a mountain, and it's just you, snow, blue skies and fresh mountain air. There's nothing like it.
What's your "weird flex, but ok..." brag?
I used to be able to recite the first 150 digits of Pi. Now days I can do about 30.
If a movie was made of your life what genre would it be, and who would play you?
It would probably be some type of Comedy/Thriller with me played by one of my favourite comedians, Trevor Wallace.
While you're here, why not meet the rest of our team?
